Mammogram Screening in Klang

What is a mammogram?

Also known as mammography, it is a process that uses low energy X-rays to conduct an examination of the breasts. Similar to typical X-ray imaging, the procedure uses low dosage of radiation to create images of the breasts which will then be analyzed for any abnormalities.

What is it used for?

To date, getting a mammogram screening is the most common method used in the detection of breast cancer. Breast cancer has been one of the leading causes of death in many female cancer patients. While doctors still recommend self-examination to detect any foreign lumps or bumps in the breasts, a mammogram scan actually reveals any growths before you can even feel them. An early detection of the tumor greatly increases the chances of recovery.

Mammogram screening is recommended for women aged 40 and above. For the best detection, you should do a mammogram screening at least once every two years. Any foreign lumps or growths that are detected will be removed for biopsy and examination. This is to make sure that the lumps are benign (non-cancerous). In the worst case scenario, an early detection boosts chances of recovery significantly.

The Procedure

The process for taking a mammogram is relatively fast. Before you take the scan, make sure that your chest area and underarms are clean. Avoid putting on any skin products such as lotions, deodorants, powders and anything that could affect the imaging. The operator will ask you to place you breasts onto a platform. A plate is then used to gently press down for a deeper scan of the inner tissues. The entire procedure takes several minutes.
